About the event
PancakesCon is a one day community hacking / cybersecurity conference which occurs around the Spring Equinox every year. This conference is 100% virtual, not-for-profit and free to stream. Talks are recorded, captioned, and viewable on the PancakesCon YouTube channel a few weeks after the conference.
PancakesCon has a unique format. All PancakesCon talks must be 40-45 minutes long. They MUST consist of two parts: A brief talk about any cybersecurity topic targeted at junior professionals / students, and a brief talk about something which is not IT-related. The non-IT topics can cover anything from hobbies to fitness, cooking to music. The purpose of this is twofold: to aid virtual attention and learning by giving mental breaks, and to encourage healthy work-life balance.
You are welcome to use the format for your own conference! We always appreciate credit, if possible.
How to ParticipateTo participate most effectively in PancakesCon, join our Slack, ask questions, and chat with your fellow attendees, particularly on the day of the conference. Along with two talk track streams, PancakesCon includes virtual villages, and prizes are raffled throughout the day.
We call for volunteers, villages, and speakers annually, and also accept some sponsorship in the form of prizes for participants. Our Swag store also provides some funding for the con and the resources required.
Conference StaffPancakesCon is the early pandemic brainchild of Lesley Carhart (hacks4pancakes), with a board consisting of Breanne Boland, Tom Williams (ginger_hax), mxshift, MzBat, and BusySignal, supported by a large crew of unpaid, talented, and slightly frantic AV, logistics, and village volunteers.
The CFP Review Board currently consists of Lesley Carhart, Breanne Boland, Elle Armageddon, Emily Gladstone Cole, Lady Secitup, The_Gibson, and Shannon Brunston.
